This research follows the design science research (DSR) methodology to develop and evaluate programmable money by pivoting the capabilities of smart contract technology.

By means of a simulation, the artefact is subjected to realistic conditions with the purpose of determining feasibility of the programmable money concept in terms of functional and non-functional performance. Quantitative data is generated during the observation of the simulation was used to obtain the findings.

This data was generated as part of a simulation that includes functional tests and nonfunctionall tests.

The functional tests are an evaluation on how efficiently rules were being enforced by smart contracts deployed on the Algorand blockchain.

The nonfunctional tests include performance data recorded when the programmable money artefact was stress tested. Siege http benchmark tool was used to flood the system with a large number of requests and the observed data was recorded.
